Drink and Draw/Java Draw Social Club: Syracuse

See, first you drink... then you draw!

I just got back and JUST sat down at the computer. I haven't yet transcribed names of the people I've met... so the report will only partially be done...

What a success! a great night. a few were regular Drink & Draw Alumni, a few got hooked by the Dale Cooper flyer, and a few more just heard about it word of mouth... "You should go to Recess tonight and draw..." effin' awesome :D

1- Jam Poster: the Java-Draw Jam poster. I came in early to get it started. I drew in "Chrono Trigger" or "Where's Waldo" fashion, the layout to Recess cafe, minus the ceilings. This way everyone could draw themselves, other people, or totally made-up stuff.

and IT. IS. CRAZY! in a good way. We've got Ghostbusters, a Startled Octopus, space-ships, a lost-Stormtrooper finds love... someone realizes that people can see him in the bathroom... a sloth dangles precariously over a clearly-labeled bottomless pit, A fond memory is re-enacted in an all-but-forgotten corner of the cafe... AND IT'S NOT DONE YET. There's tons of space left to fill, and all the additions have been awesome, so this one will be at the next Java-Draw for more additions! it'll be AWESOME. I'll have a scan of it online soon so people can see the current status, and they can add to it later.

2- ROYL WE, Two students (Mikie & Peter) Two guys from SU who pay close attention to public art, started another type of Jam-drawing. Produced from their bag, a Dry-Erase board with "Royl We" written in script in the corner. He gave me the board and a bunch of sharpies and said "pass this around". I replied "but these are sharpies, they're permanent." and he said "yeah, that's the point" and I was all like, "Ah-Hah! gotcha." It turned out great, from what i saw (I saw it at about 75% completion)! I didn't get to see it in it's final stage, but Damn, what I did see was solid.

Mikie also gave me a sticker with an Octopus on it. it's awesome. I don't know where it will go yet, but I will find a good place for it.

3- Recess Cafe: Big shout of Appreciation and thanks to Adam and Jesse of Recess for hosting Java-Draw! In the past, I've often been in Hermit-mode at Recess (finding a corner and locking my head down in work-mode) and I enjoy it there, but it's even better when there's a bunch of people. Maybe next time we'll have nice weather (it was rainy that night) and we can experience Java-Draw on their porch. Anyway, Java-Draw has found it's home. Thanks again, Adam & Jesse!
